Railway Stations in Ho Chi Minh City

Located in the south of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Saigon, is the country’s largest city, as well as its commercial, cultural and transportation center.

Ho Chi Minh City was once the capital of Vietnam. At that time, it was called Saigon. In 1975, the name Saigon was changed to Ho Chi Minh City, to commemorate the founder of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

As one of Vietnam’s most important transportation hubs, Ho Chi Minh City is well-connected to other major cities by railway. Most domestic Vietnamese trains originate from here.

Saigon Railway Station was built in 1930 during the French colonial period. It is located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, with convenient transportation to and from it.

As one of the most important railway stations in Vietnam, Saigon Station is the terminus of the main north–south rail route from Hanoi to Saigon.

Saigon Station is well-maintained with modern facilities, including power sockets, ATM machines and free Wi-Fi. Restaurants and coffee shops are available in and around the station.

The ticket office is on the second floor of the station. Staff can only speak simple English. To avoid language barriers, it is recommended you first search for train information on the Train Schedule. Then write a note in Vietnamese and English with train information and departure date.

Taxi

Taxi is the easiest and most comfortable way to get around Ho Chi Minh City. But watch out for taxi scams. Find a regulated and trustworthy taxi company like Vinasuor Mailinh. They charge you according to the meter. Don’t board a taxi waiting outside the train station, the airport or any tourist spot. It is better to take a taxi that is driving on the street.

Bus

There are over 100 bus routes in Ho Chi Minh City. Taking a bus to get around the city is convenient and will cost you very little, from as little as VND 3000. All the buses are air-conditioned. Buses to Saigon Station are numbers 216, 402, 477, 901 and 902, etc.

Motorbiketaxi (Xe Om)

Motorbikes are locally called Xe Om. They are the most efficient mode of public transportation. They are great for helping solo travelers to explore the city at low cost.

Cyclo

If you are not in a hurry taking a cyclo can be interesting and is quite an experience. The guest seat in front of the cyclo provides an open view of the city. Don’t be afraid to bargain with the driver. And remember to settle on the price before you get on.
