New Delhi Railway Station

Located in the centre of Delhi, 2 kilometers from Connaught Place, New Delhi Railway Station is the largest and busiest station in India, handling an average of 360,000 passengers daily.

The station serves more than 300 railway lines and is well-connected to a number of Indian cities. It is the terminal station for most of the eastbound and southbound train routes. Free Wi-Fi is available.

New Delhi Railway Station is usually very busy and crowded. So it is advisable to arrive at the station at least an hour before departure. And beware of pickpockets.

Metro

The metro is the fastest way to get around Delhi. There are 2 metro lines passing through New Delhi Railway Station.

Taxi

Taxi is the most convenient way to get to the railway station, especially when you are carrying a lot of luggage. You can easily find a taxi with typical yellow-and-black colors. The flag-down fare is 20 rupees per kilometer.

A new type of radio taxi started operating in 2006. This type can be reserved in advance. The plate number, driver’s name and contact information will be sent to your cell phone after you make the booking.

Bus

Bus is the cheapest way to get around Delhi. It is also convenient for there is a vast bus network. Buses connect to almost every part of the city. But buses are always crowded and may be confusing for first-time tourists. There are no announcements on the buses, and some stops don’t have station boards.

Rickshaw (tuk-tuk)

Alternatively, you could try a rickshaw (tuk-tuk). This would be an experience unique to India. The driver would always quote a higher price than for locals. Read guidebooks and travel blogs beforehand to determine a reasonable price and negotiate accordingly.

Old Delhi Railway Station

Old Delhi Railway Station is also called Delhi Junction. Situated next to New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station is the oldest station in Delhi, and one of the most important transportation hubs of the capital.

Take the Yellow Line to Chandni Chowk, and then walk for approximately 5 minutes to Old Delhi Railway Station.

Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station

As one of the four main railway stations in Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station serves most railway lines to southern areas of India. It is situated adjacent to the renowned tourist attraction Humayun Tomb and Sarai Kale Khan Inter State Bus Terminal, around 7 kilometers from Connaught Place.

Metro

Take the Metro Purple Line to JLN Stadium, and then take a rickshaw (tuk-tuk) to Hazrat Nizamuddin. The JLN Stadium is approximately 3 kilometers from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station.

Anand Vihar Terminal Railway Station

Located in the east of Delhi, Anand Vihar Terminal Railway Station mainly serves eastbound trains from Delhi. It is one of the largest stations in Delhi, and was recently commissioned, in 2009.

Metro

Take the Metro Blue Line to Karkarduma, and then walk 10 minutes or take a rickshaw to the station. Karkarduma is only 1 kilometer from Anand Vihar Railway Station.

Delhi Sarai Rohilla Railway Station

Delhi Sarai Rohilla Railway Station is one of the oldest stations in Delhi but relatively small. It only serves lines to Mumbai, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan.

Metro

There is no metro line to Sarai Rohilla Railway Station. The nearest metro stop is Madhuban Chowk. You can take the Metro Red Line to Madhuban Chowk, and then take a rickshaw to Sarai Rohilla, which will take around 30 minutes.
