Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station is situated in the Minhang District of Shanghai, adjacent to Terminal 2 of the Hongqiao International Airport. It is approximately 12.4 miles (20 kilometers) from Nanjing Road, 13 miles (21 kilometers) from Shanghai Railway Station, 12.4 miles (20 kilometers) from Shanghai South Railway Station, and 37 miles (60 kilometers) from Pudong International Airport.

At the northern end of Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, it connects with the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway and the Shanghai-Hankou-Chengdu High-Speed Railway. At the southern end, it joins with the Shanghai-Kunming High-Speed Railway and the Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo Intercity Railway. This station serves as an integral part of the Shanghai Hongqiao Comprehensive Transportation Hub, being the largest and most significant railway passenger hub in the East China region.

Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station Transportation

The transportation hub of Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station is exceptionally convenient, offering seamless connectivity through a variety of modes including subway, buses, and taxis, greatly facilitating travelers' journeys.

Subway

Beneath the railway station lies Shanghai Hongqiao Subway Station, serving as an interchange for Shanghai Metro Lines 2, 10, and 17. Passengers exiting the subway ascend from the underground platform level to the concourse level below, where escalators on both sides lead to the upper level waiting hall. For high-speed rail passengers, descending to the concourse level, passing through the ticket gates, and crossing a passage, brings them to the subway concourse.

  • Shanghai Metro Line 17 operates between Hongqiao Railway Station and Dongfang Luzhou Station, a dual-island platform station on the lower level, where it intersects with Line 2 (towards the city center) and connects with Line 10 at the concourse level.

Bus

Within the station premises are two bus stops—Hongqiao Hub East Transport Center and Hongqiao Hub West Transport Center. The East Center, located near Terminal 2 of the airport, facilitates transfers between the airport and intercity rail transit, while the West Center, situated on the west side of the railway station building, mainly serves rail passengers for transport connections.

Taxi and Ride-hailing

Taxis and ride-hailing services for departing passengers can directly access the waiting hall entrance via the elevated lanes on the north and south sides of Shanghai Hongqiao Station. Arriving passengers can head west from the subway concourse level to reach the underground floor of the Hongqiao Transportation Hub to access taxis or ride-hailing services.

Long-Distance Coaches

Shanghai Hongqiao West Bus Station (or Hongqiao Long-Distance Bus Station), located to the west of Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, is supported by various transportation modes including subway, buses, and taxis. Separated by a corridor from B1 level of Hongqiao Station, it is approximately 10 meters away from the interchange concourse hall.

Arriving at Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station

  • From Shanghai Railway Station: Take Metro Line 1 (heading towards Xinzhuang), transfer to Metro Line 2 at People's Square Station, and continue on to Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station.
  • From Shanghai South Railway Station: Board Metro Line 10, transfer at South Shanxi Road Station to Metro Line 1, and proceed to Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station.
  • From other parts of the city:You can conveniently access Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station by taking Metro Line 2, 10, or 17 directly.

Departing from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station

  • To Shanghai Railway Station: Take Metro Line 2 and transfer to Metro Line 1 at People's Square Station.
  • To Shanghai South Railway Station: Board Metro Line 10, transfer at South Shanxi Road Station to Metro Line 1.
  • To other parts of the city: Options include Metro Line 2, 10, or 17 for your journey.

Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station is divided into four levels: the underground floor (B1F Arrival Level), the ground floor (1F Platform Level), the second floor (2F Departure Level), and the third floor (3F Commercial Level).

Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station Service & Facilities

Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station serves most high-speed trains to and from the city of Shanghai. It is also the terminus for Shanghai-Beijing, Shanghai-Kunming, Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo and Shanghai-Chengdu high-speed railways.

Ticket Office

Ticket offices are located on the second floor, around the waiting lounge. There are 10 ticket offices with 154 manual ticket windows in total. Manual ticket windows provide service of ticket purchase and ticket collection. Several designated windows are specially for ticket change and cancellation. The No. 12 window is a comprehensive service counter, providing travel consulting and foreign currency exchange service.

There are also 80 automatic ticket machines. It is convenient for Chinese travelers buying and collecting tickets. Those machines sometimes cannot recognize ID documents other than Chinese ID cards, and only Chinese language is available. So for foreign travelers, it is recommended to purchase or collect tickets at the manual ticekt windows.

Waiting Lounge

A large waiting lounge is located in the departure concourse on the second floor. It is open-planed and all travelers waiting in this lounge. With an area of 11,340 square meters, the waiting lounge can accommodate up to 10,000 travelers waiting for boarding at the same time.

Boarding Gate

The waiting lounge is connected to the boarding gates, which are located on both sides of the waiting lounge and lead you to the platforms. Train information will be shown on the LED screen above the each gate. There are 32 boarding gates in Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station. Each gate is equipped with automatic ticket-check machines and a manual check-in channel. Passengers who hold blue tickets can check in through automatic ticket machines. Passengers who hold red tickets need to check in through manual check-in channel.

Transfer Hall

The transfer hall is located on the first floor, connecting to the arrival concourse, providing convenience for travelers take their connection trains.

From the hall, a 10-minute walk to the east you can reach Terminal 2 of Hongqiao International Airport; a walk to the west you can reach the coach station. The transfer hall also links to subway platforms on the same floor, and there is a taxi stand and a city bus station available.
