The Yi Peng Festival, also known as the Yee Peng Festival or Thai Festivals of Lights, is a traditional Lanna festival celebrated in Northern Thailand, particularly in the city of Chiang Mai.
The festival is set to take place on November 5th and 6th, 2025.
It is Famous for its mesmerizing display of thousands of illuminated sky lanterns, known as khom loi, released into the night sky. This act symbolizes good luck, making merit, and letting go of troubles or negativity.
What to Expect
- Release a Lantern: Release your sky lantern. You can write your wishes, dreams, or prayers on the lantern before lighting it.
- Enjoy Traditional Dances and Performances: Watch traditional Thai dance performances and music shows, enriching your cultural experience during the festival.
- Taste Local Food: Try dishes like Som Tam (spicy green papaya salad), Khao Soi (a northern Thai curry - noodle dish), and Satay (grilled skewered meat served with peanut sauce).
- Enjoy Fireworks: The fireworks will be displayed after the mass release of sky lanterns at the end of the ceremony.

Cancelation Policy
- Cancellations received 22 or more days before the festival day will be eligible for a full refund of the ticket amount.
- Cancellations made from 0 to 21 days before the festival day are non-refundable.
- If the celebration is canceled, the ticket cost will be donated to charity and will not be refunded.
- No-show travelers are non-refundable.
Children Policy
- Children under 8 years old can attend free of charge. They must be seated with a parent, and no additional lantern or souvenir will be provided, but they can have dinner meal with the parent.
- 8-year-olds and above are charged the same as adults.
- Parents must make sure their children stay safe during the event.

2025 CAD Yi Peng Lantern Festival Schedule
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm: Meeting and Venue Transport
Transportation: Make your way to the meeting point at PAYAP UNIVERSITY PIH Student Dormitory using your transport. Present your e-ticket to hop on the shuttle to the event location. Shuttles operate every 5 minutes from 14:00 to 16:00, with the last shuttle departing by 16:00. The journey takes around 50 minutes.
3:30 pm - 5:00 pm: Check-in, Artisanal Activities, and Cultural Shows
Arrival: Register at the main entrance with your e-ticket. Receive a lanyard badge and a keepsake before exploring the Craft and Art section, the vibrant 'tribal village,' and enjoying various cultural performances and engaging activities like the ceremonial water lantern launch.
6:30 pm - 8:00 pm: Dinner Delights
Dining: Delight in an authentic Thai Lanna Buffet Dinner. Enjoy a variety of snacks, delectable desserts, and refreshing non-alcoholic beverages. Specially curated vegetarian options are available for our vegetarian guests.
7:30 pm - 8:15 pm: Entertainment and Spiritual Observances
Entertainment: Experience captivating live drumming, candlelight shows, religious traditions, and soul-stirring chants led by revered monks in the ceremony area near the grand pagoda.
8:15 pm - 8:45 pm: Lantern Release and Fireworks Spectacle
Lantern Release and Fireworks: Participate in releasing lanterns into the night sky and enjoy a magical fireworks display, offering an awe-inspiring visual treat.
8:45 pm: Concluding Ceremony and City Return
Return: As the event concludes, a shuttle service will be available to take you back to the city. You can choose drop-off points at either the bustling Maya Shopping Center or the vibrant Chiang Mai Night Bazaar based on prevailing traffic conditions.
