10:30 AM - 1:30 PM Visit Leshan Giant Buddha
The Leshan Giant Buddha was built in the 8th century AD. It is the largest stone-carved Buddha statue in the world and also the tallest pre-modern statue in the world. It was chiseled from the cliff of Lingyun Mountain to calm the swift currents of the three rivers that converge under its gaze. There are stairs carved on the cliff, connecting the area at the foot of the Buddha statue with the land above, allowing you to view this amazing sight.
Firstly, walk hundreds of steps to reach the head of the Giant Buddha and take a picture at the height of the Buddha's shoulder for a keepsake. Then, walk along the narrow cliff path to the foot of the Giant Buddha to have a full view of the whole Buddha.
Enter the park at the top of the cliff and walk down the Nine Bends Plank Road, a steep and narrow pathway carved into the mountainside, to reach the feet of the Buddha. Along the way, explore attractions like Lingyun Temple near the Buddha's head and enjoy the view of the Giant Sleeping Buddha, a natural mountain formation. Matters Needing Attention: Wear comfortable shoes and bring water as the hike can be challenging. The site can be crowded during peak times.
Visiting Options: If you don't want to climb the mountain, you can take a cruise to visit the Giant Buddha. The boat departs from a dock near the river, offering a full-frontal view of the Buddha from the water. It lasts about 30 minutes.
